Welcome to today’s spotlight on a badass band from the great state of Oklahoma. That band is none other than AllTown! AllTown is a band my cousin put me onto last year, and they have been in my rotation constantly since. If you’ve never heard of them before today, you’re going to learn a little about who they are behind the music, and after you read this, I highly recommend you go and check them out. But for now, who is AllTown?
AllTown is a band from Enid, Oklahoma. The band consists of Brock Niehus (Vocals and Guitar), Archer Conrady (Bass), and Aaron Kurtz (Drums). Everyone in the band started playing music in 6th grade in music classes. Everyone started it as a hobby when they were kids and fell in love with it. AllTown said their sound is “a little bit of Red Dirt, a little bit of rock that sounds kinda like alternative rock.”
What inspired the band to start making music? They said, “We all grew up around music; some of our parents were also musicians as well.” Who are some artists that have influenced the band the most? Treaty Oak, John Mayer, Nirvana, Turnpike Troubadours, and Foo Fighters are who the band listed. I think the mix of genres speaks for them being a Red Dirt band. Most Red Dirt bands, I feel like, have a mix of genres like this.
What’s been their favorite show or venue to play so far?
They said, “Our favorite show so far has for sure been getting to play Calffry ’25 MainStage opening for Ian Munsick. Our favorite venue is probably Grady’s 66 Pub in Yukon, OK.” Grady’s always has killer shows booked throughout the year, and lots of artists talk about playing there and the vibe/atmosphere that the crowd gives.
Now, those were venues the band has played, but what are their dream venues? Well, they gave us their top three, saying, “Our top three dream venues are The Opry, Red Rocks, and Billy Bob’s.” So far, the band’s biggest turning point was getting to play Calffry, which I think, for any smaller Oklahoma band, is a significant milestone in your music career.
What’s something about the band that people might not expect? They said, “All three of us throughout high school studied jazz music.” This might be the most interesting thing told on a spotlight to date, so hell yeah. What does AllTown hope people feel when they hear their music? They said, “We hope when people hear our music, they feel emotions they’re unable to express.” I can agree with that 100%. Their music does that for me.
What does success look like for AllTown? They said, “If our music impacts people and their lives positively, we see that as success.” Balancing music with the rest of life can be tricky. The band said they balance it by taking “breaks from being on the road and taking time for ourselves.” Sometimes all you need is a little R and R to balance yourself out, and that goes for everyone.
What is one piece of advice AllTown could give to someone just starting out in music? “Write the music that you want to hear,” was their answer. Honestly, I love this. I think a lot of people put out songs they aren’t in love with just to get something to fans. I’d rather get a few songs here and there that even the artists themselves would listen to than something put out just to give fans something new.
Lastly, what can we expect from AllTown when it comes to new music? They said, “We are currently recording an album with Luke Tallon. We expect it to be out by December or January, with a few singles dropping before then.” So stay on the lookout for some new music in the coming months.
